The Korean Film Archive (KOFA) will hold an online memorial screening to honor actor Ahn Sung-ki, who passed away on the 5th.
According to KOFA on the 9th, ten of his representative works will be made available through its Korean Classic Film YouTube Channel.
The Korean Classic Film YouTube Channel, operated by KOFA, is its official channel that regularly releases Korean films that have undergone film digitization and restoration. It currently offers more than 230 titles and has around one million subscribers.
For this online memorial program, KOFA has selected ten major works featuring Ahn Sung-ki. The lineup includes “Mandala” (1981), “A Small Ball Shot by a Midget” (1981), “People in the Slum” (1982), “Whale Hunting” (1984), “Our Joyful Young Days” (1987), “Gagman” (1988), “The Age of Success” (1988), “Nambugun: North Korean Partisan in South Korea” (1990), “The Taebaek Mountains” (1994), and “Festival” (1996). Centered largely on his films from the 1980s, the program allows viewers to revisit Ahn Sung-ki’s presence in Korean cinema of that era. The online memorial screenings can be viewed via a dedicated playlist on the Korean Classic Film YouTube Channel.
Alongside the online memorial program, KOFA has also released a Korean Classic Film video essay titled “Our Joyful Young Days and Ahn Sung-ki,” which looks back on the actor’s cinematic career, on its YouTube channel.
Meanwhile, “national actor” Ahn Sung-ki will be laid to rest today, the 9th.
According to his agency Artist Company, a funeral Mass will be held at Myeongdong Cathedral at around 9 a.m. that day.
