[The Financial News] “Please use this, even if it is not much, for a good cause.”These were the words left by an anonymous donor in Incheon Metropolitan City. The single handwritten sentence on the crumpled envelope warmed hearts as much as the money inside.
The story of an anonymous donor who delivered cash along with a handwritten note to Ganghwa County in Incheon Metropolitan City has only recently come to light. According to Ganghwa County on the 8th, a plastic bag containing 1.01 million won was found on the morning of the 6th at the main central entrance of the Ganghwa County Office Building.
Inside the bag were an envelope bearing the above message, twenty 50,000-won bills, and one 10,000-won bill. A cleaning staff member found the bag hanging from the entrance door handle and handed it over to a Security Guard with Police Status, through whom the anonymous donor’s good deed became known.
A Ganghwa County official stated, “This warm-hearted gesture of putting neighbors first is quietly moving many people,” adding, “We will use the donation in a meaningful way, in line with the donor’s wishes.” Ganghwa County plans to use the funds to help neighbors in need through the Community Chest of Korea and similar channels.
Meanwhile, Incheon has recently seen a series of donations in which individuals deliver cash to public institutions without revealing their identities. On the 6th, at the Nonhyeon 2-dong Community Service Center in Namdong District, an anonymous citizen left 500,000 won in cash, asking that it be used for vulnerable residents. Last month in Cheongna 2-dong in Seo District, Incheon, two residents anonymously donated 5 million won and 1 million won, respectively.
