[The Financial News] The casting for the live-action adaptation of the Disney animated film 'Tangled', for which Blackpink member Lalisa Manobal had been mentioned as a candidate, has been revealed.
On the 7th (local time), The Walt Disney Company announced the lead lineup for the live-action version of 'Tangled' through its official social media accounts.
Australian actor Teagan Croft has been chosen to play Rapunzel, the protagonist known for her long golden hair. American actor Milo Manheim has been cast opposite her as Flynn Rider.
Teagan Croft gained recognition for her role as Rachel Roth (Raven) in the DC series 'Titans'. She also appeared in the Netflix film 'True Spirit'.
Milo Manheim has appeared in the American drama 'Ghost Whisperer' and the films 'Zombies 3' and 'Prom Pact'. He also finished as runner-up in season 27 of the dance competition show 'Dancing with the Stars'.
In recent years, The Walt Disney Company has cast Black and Latino actors in the live-action remakes of 'The Little Mermaid' and 'Snow White', saying it aimed to reflect political correctness (PC) by reinterpreting originally white characters. However, these casting choices faced criticism for straying from the source material and delivered underwhelming box office results.
In response to the latest casting announcement, global fans are reacting by saying, "Disney has finally come to its senses." Online commenters are writing, "They match the original characters’ images well," "It was worth the wait," and "Applause for Disney for choosing the original over PC."
Some, however, are reacting with comments such as, "Wasn’t Blackpink’s Lalisa Manobal supposed to be cast?" and "That’s disappointing."
In November last year, U.S. outlet allkpop reported that Lalisa Manobal was being seriously considered as a leading candidate for the role of Rapunzel.

On the 2nd of this month, Lalisa Manobal also fueled speculation by posting a photo of herself side by side with an image of Rapunzel on her Social Networking Service (SNS) account. Fans cheered and speculated that she had been confirmed as the star of the live-action 'Tangled' film.
However, with the official announcement, that possibility has now effectively been laid to rest.
