According to The Financial News, a YouTuber is drawing attention after reportedly earning about 200 million won a year from a single video uploaded a decade ago.
As of the 8th, the YouTube channel "Fireplace 10 hours" has a video titled "Fireplace 10 Hours Full HD," posted in 2016, that has surpassed 150 million views. The channel hosts only this one video, yet it has attracted more than 110,000 subscribers.
True to its title, the video simply shows logs burning in a fireplace for 10 hours straight. It is mainly played in winter and during the Christmas season at cafes, restaurants and other venues to create a warm, cozy atmosphere.
Data from YouTube analytics site Social Blade indicate that the channel has generated about 1.2 million dollars (approximately 1.74 billion won) in ad revenue over nine years. Its average annual income is estimated at around 140,000 dollars (about 228 million won).
Ad rates on YouTube vary depending on channel size and video length. In this case, however, analysts note that viewers tend to run the video in the background for long periods and return to it every winter season, rather than watching it just once. This steady, recurring traffic is believed to have produced consistently high earnings.
