[Financial News] Police investigating lobbying allegations involving the Unification Church and political circles have begun forensic procedures on the mobile phone and other devices belonging to former DPK lawmaker Jong-sung Lim.
The special investigation team of the National Office of Investigation at the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) started forensic analysis at 10 a.m. on the 8th on items seized from Lim, who is under suspicion of violating the Political Funds Act.
At approximately 9:57 a.m. that day, Lim's attorney appeared at the KNPA building in Seodaemun District, Seoul, to observe the forensic process. Lim himself did not attend.
Previously, on December 15 last year, police searched Lim's residence and seized a PC, mobile phone, and other items.
Lim is accused of receiving 30 million won from the Unification Church around the time of the April 2020 general election, in violation of the Political Funds Act. A document titled 'TM (True Mother) Special Report,' prepared by Unification Church officials for Hak Ja Han, reportedly states that Lim assisted the church's water resources project in Kyrgyzstan.
However, Lim has categorically denied all allegations of receiving illicit funds.
Meanwhile, on the 6th, the Joint Investigation Headquarters of the Prosecution and Police was established to investigate alleged collusion between religious groups such as the Unification Church and political circles. However, as the office has not yet been set up, witness interviews and forensic work are still being conducted at the KNPA building.
