[The Financial News] Park Soo-young, the opposition secretary of the National Assembly Planning and Finance Committee, has raised suspicions regarding the background of the sale and the source of funds for the commercial property purchased by the children of Lee Hye-hoon, nominee for Minister of Planning and Budget, from their grandmother.
On the 8th, Park wrote on his social media account, "Lee Hye-hoon's privileged trio not only benefited from parental advantage but also received a helping hand from their grandmother."
Park explained, "In July 2021, the nominee’s mother-in-law bought a commercial property in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, for 195 million won. Four months later, she sold it to Lee's eldest son, then 30, and second son, then 28, for 208 million won." He added, "Both sons transferred 101.5 million won in cash each, excluding the deposit, directly to their grandmother’s account."
He continued, "At the time, the eldest son was a doctoral student with no earned income, and the second son had been working at a social welfare foundation for six months, reporting an income of about 14 million won." Park questioned, "How did these two young men come up with 200 million won, and why did their grandmother sell the property to her grandsons just four months after purchasing it?"
He further asserted, "It is reasonable and highly suspicious to believe that the grandmother bought the property for her grandsons and that the grandsons paid for it using parental advantage." Park also claimed, "While Lee Hye-hoon's 'privileged trio' enjoyed not only parental but also grandparental advantage, aides of similar age to the nominee’s children had to give up their valuable jobs due to Lee’s verbal abuse." He called for Lee Hye-hoon's resignation.
