[Financial News] The Seoul High Court will convene a General Assembly of Judges to discuss the formation of the Special Panel for Insurrection Cases.
On the 7th, the Seoul High Court announced, "In accordance with the enforcement of the Act on Special Cases (the law establishing the Special Panel for Insurrection Cases), a General Assembly of Judges will be held at 2 p.m. on the 15th to deliberate on the criteria for forming the special panel and to discuss the basic principles for the allocation of judicial duties among Seoul High Court judges for 2026." The meeting will be chaired by the Chief Judge of the Seoul High Court.
During the assembly, discussions will cover the number of panels dedicated to cases under the Act on Special Cases, the qualifications of judges who will serve on these panels, and other necessary matters for the law’s implementation. Depending on the progress, additional General Assemblies of Judges may be convened.
The Committee for Allocation of Judicial Duties (chaired by the Senior Presiding Judge) has already begun reviewing proposals for the allocation of duties to be submitted to the General Assembly of Judges. The committee is expected to meet several more times, but the specific schedule and details of the discussions will remain confidential.
A Seoul High Court official stated, "We will make thorough preparations to ensure fair and prompt trials for cases subject to the Act on Special Cases."
Previously, on the 6th, the 'Act on Special Cases Concerning Criminal Procedures for Insurrection and Treason Crimes' (the law establishing the Special Panel for Insurrection Cases) was promulgated and went into effect. According to the Act on Special Cases, the Seoul High Court must establish at least two special panels to handle such cases, and related procedures such as convening the General Assembly of Judges and the Committee for Allocation of Judicial Duties are stipulated.
