[Financial News] The CEO of JOYWORKS&Co, the domestic distributor of the running shoe brand Hoka, has issued an apology and announced his resignation after assaulting employees of a subcontractor.
On the 7th, JOYWORKS&Co stated, "Jo Sung-hwan, CEO of JOYWORKS&Co, has acknowledged full responsibility for this incident and announced his resignation from the CEO position, stepping down from management."
Jo Sung-hwan also released a personal apology, saying, "I sincerely apologize for causing great anger and disappointment to many people due to my inappropriate actions," and added, "This incident was entirely my own fault and an inexcusable mistake on my part."
He continued, "Although I am fully aware that the use of physical force can never be justified for any reason, I failed to control my emotions in the moment and committed an irreparable mistake. I sincerely apologize to those who were hurt by my thoughtless actions."
He further stated, "What pains and embarrasses me most is that my single mistake has led to criticism of all our employees and staff," emphasizing, "It is truly heartbreaking that they must bow their heads because of my wrongdoing."
Jo Sung-hwan pleaded, "I earnestly ask that our partner companies and employees do not suffer any further harm because of my personal mistake," and reiterated, "Once again, I offer my sincere apologies."
Previously, Jo Sung-hwan reportedly summoned the CEO and employees of a subcontractor to an abandoned church building in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong District, where he assaulted and verbally abused them. As this was reported by multiple media outlets and sparked public controversy, a boycott movement against the brand has emerged among consumers.
