[Financial News] As the new year begins, more people are suffering from hangovers due to frequent drinking. Recently, a ranking of the best hangover foods from around the world has drawn attention.
According to the Daily Mail on the 30th of last month (local time), researchers from the health and nutrition app Lifesum analyzed typical hangover foods from ten countries from a nutritional perspective and announced a ranking of foods most helpful for hangover recovery.
Japan's Miso Soup took the top spot. The researchers noted that pairing this fermented soup with rice and pickled foods increases electrolyte content while keeping fat and fiber low, making it especially effective for relieving hangovers.
Second place went to Korea's vegetable soup with rice and Kimchi. The team explained that Korean hangover foods are rich in vitamins and minerals, and the Probiotics in Kimchi help improve gut health.
In third place was Sweden's vegetable and fish soup, which contains lean protein, balanced nutrients, and plenty of hydration.
The researchers explained that meals rich in fluids, fermented foods, lean proteins, and vegetables can help speed up recovery after heavy drinking.
On the other hand, American and British foods were ranked as the least suitable for hangover relief.
The English breakfast, which includes bacon, sausage, and eggs, ranked last at 10th place, while greasy American fried foods came in 9th.
These dishes are high in saturated fat and low in dietary fiber. Moreover, the hangover foods from the UK and US each exceed 1,000 calories, while the average calorie count for hangover foods from other countries is only about 337 kcal, making the difference nearly threefold.
The researchers stated, "Using fried foods to recover from a hangover increases fatigue and digestive burden," and added, "These meals are high in sodium and lack essential nutrients, making them unsuitable choices."
They further advised, "The most effective way to recover from a hangover is to consume soups or broths rich in fluids, as well as fruits. Adding fermented foods like Kimchi or Miso can also boost gut health." They emphasized, "The best way to prevent a severe hangover is to abstain from alcohol or drink in moderation."
