[Financial News] In an Officetel in Incheon, controversy erupted after it was revealed that residents who own cats were asked to move out due to fire risk concerns.
On the 6th, a notice posted by the management office of an Officetel in Cheongna International City, Seo-gu, Incheon, was shared on a Social Networking Service (SNS), drawing attention.
The management office announced that at last month's Residents' General Meeting, cats, ferrets, rabbits, raccoons, and other animals were designated as prohibited animals.
The notice further stated, "Households with cats must use safety covers on their induction stoves," and "We respectfully request that households who must keep cats consider relocating elsewhere."
It was found that the management office issued this notice as a request for cooperation, citing a fire caused by a cat in the Officetel last September.
On the other hand, some residents who saw the notice pointed out, "There is a problem with linking the cause and solution of the fire to a request for cat-owning households to move out," and criticized, "The Officetel has been operated unreasonably for some time."
Netizens also responded, "If a fire had been caused by a child, would they have asked households with children to move out?" and "Keeping a cat is a personal choice, so forcing people to relocate is not right."
As the controversy grew, an Officetel official explained, "This was a matter decided at the Residents' General Meeting, and we simply posted the notice," adding, "It was more of a request for cooperation rather than an enforcement."
