[The Financial News] On the 6th, KOSPI surged on strong buying by individual investors, breaking through the 4,500 mark for the first time in history.
KOSPI ended the day at 4,525.48, up 67.96 points (1.52%) from the previous trading day. This surpassed the previous record closing high of 4,457.52 set just the day before.
KOSPI opened at 4,446.08, down 11.44 points (0.26%) from the previous session, but rebounded after an initial pause and posted strong gains. In the domestic stock market, foreigners and institutions sold 630.5 billion won and 69 billion won worth of shares, respectively, while individual investors purchased 599.2 billion won.
Among the top 14 stocks by market capitalization, all closed higher except for KB Financial Group (-0.32%) and Kia Corporation (-0.08%). HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (7.21%), SK Hynix (4.31%), Naver Corporation (4.21%), and SK Square (3.85%) recorded the largest gains. Samsung Electronics, the largest stock by market cap, ended at 1,389,000 won, up 0.58% from the previous session.
The KOSDAQ Index closed at 955.97, down 1.53 points (0.16%) from the previous session. The index opened at 959.38, up 1.88 points (0.20%).
