[Financial News] UNICEF expressed its condolences following the passing of actor Ahn Sung-ki. Even before the Korean Committee for UNICEF was established, Ahn volunteered his time in the 1980s, and since 1993, he had served as a goodwill ambassador.
On the 5th, the Korean Committee for UNICEF posted on its official social media, "To us, he was the 'national actor' with a gentle smile, and to children worldwide, he was a steadfast 'pillar of hope.' After more than 40 years of unwavering dedication to children, Goodwill Ambassador Ahn Sung-ki has now left our side," the message read.
The Korean Committee for UNICEF recalled, "Goodwill Ambassador Ahn Sung-ki devoted his life to protecting children, just as he did to his acting career, and served as a role model for our society." The committee added, "We are deeply grateful to Goodwill Ambassador Ahn Sung-ki for his boundless love for children around the world and his partnership with the Korean Committee for UNICEF. We sincerely wish him peace in his final rest."
They continued, "It was an honor to work alongside the Goodwill Ambassador," expressing heartfelt gratitude in their final farewell.
Ahn Sung-ki passed away at 9 a.m. that day at the age of 74. He had been transported to the emergency room of Soonchunhyang University Hospital Seoul in a state of cardiac arrest on December 30 of last year, and despite receiving treatment in the intensive care unit, he ultimately passed away.
The memorial altar will be set up at The Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary's Hospital. The funeral will be held as a film industry funeral, organized by the Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation and the Korea Film Actors Association. The procession will take place at 6 a.m. on the 9th, and the burial will be at Byeolgeurida Memorial Park, Yangpyeong.
