[Financial News] Prosecutors have decided not to indict Paik Jong-won, CEO of The BORN Korea, in the Country of Origin Marking Act violation case.
According to the prosecution on the 5th, the Seoul Western District Public Prosecutors' Office decided not to indict The BORN Korea on December 29 last year regarding the alleged violation of the Country of Origin Marking Act. Authorities explained that it was difficult to establish intent or responsibility for the staff member involved in the alleged false labeling of origin, and as a result, the company was also cleared of charges.
Previously, the Special Judicial Police Officer of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service referred the case to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment on June 4 last year. Following further investigation under the direction of the prosecution, the Special Judicial Police Officer resubmitted the case on December 24 with a recommendation of no charges. After reviewing the case, the prosecution issued a final decision of no charges on December 29.
Prosecutors reportedly found it difficult to establish intent, considering that the staff member was unaware of the false country of origin labeling.
The BORN Korea had faced allegations of labeling some products as domestically produced on online malls. In connection with this, the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service ordered the removal or correction of such labels in March last year.
