[The Financial News] Former basketball star and broadcaster Hyun Joo-yup has revealed his gaunt appearance, sharing that he has been undergoing psychiatric treatment following allegations of negligence and abuse of power.
According to TV Chosun, Hyun Joo-yup's story will be featured on the first episode of the variety show 'Dad and I Season 3,' which is set to premiere on the 14th. This reality family observation program follows parents and children as they open up about past grievances and work toward understanding each other.
A teaser video released on the 3rd showed Hyun Joo-yup, who lost his everyday life due to allegations that arose while serving as a school basketball coach.
Hyun Joo-yup revealed that he has lost more than 40kg while receiving psychiatric treatment. He shared, "It was mentally very difficult. If it had been something I had to endure alone, it might have been bearable, but my children and wife also had to go through tough times," expressing the pain his family experienced.
He continued, "My eldest son Joon-hee spent the most time in the hospital and is still struggling," speaking about his son, who remains isolated from the world and is undergoing medication treatment.
Hyun Joon-hee said, "My dad used to be my dream and the coolest father. Now, he's a fallen hero?" expressing his mixed emotions. It is reported that, due to public scrutiny and bullying after the controversy, Hyun Joon-hee quit basketball and decided to take a leave of absence from school.
Speaking about his father, Hyun Joon-hee confessed, "To be honest, I have uncomfortable feelings. When I was really struggling, my father didn't notice, so why is he pretending to care now? That's what I think," revealing the deepening emotional rift.
In response, Hyun Joo-yup said, "You can't open up all at once. It will take time, but I believe things will get better if we keep trying," expressing his determination to repair their relationship.
