On the 4th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially stated, "We hope that democracy will be restored in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela with respect for the will of its people, and that the situation will stabilize swiftly through dialogue." The ministry also urged, "All parties must make every effort to ease regional tensions."
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the same day that, through a military operation, he had ousted Nicolás Maduro, the anti-American president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The detained President Maduro was extradited to the United States.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that it would make every effort to ensure the safety of the approximately 70 Korean nationals residing in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. According to the Overseas Koreans Protection Division, "Currently, about 70 Korean nationals are staying in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (with around 50 in Caracas), and no damage to our citizens has been reported so far."
In response to the situation in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Consular Affairs Bureau, under the leadership of Vice Minister Kim Jin-a of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a situation review meeting and decided to immediately implement safety measures for Korean residents.
