[Financial News] French luxury brand Chanel has overtaken Louis Vuitton, which has long held the top spot in global luxury fashion brand value, to become the new leader.
According to the '2025 Global Luxury Brand Value' report released on the 2nd by British brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance, Chanel's brand value surged by 45% year-on-year to $37.9 billion (approximately 54.8 trillion won). With this, Chanel claimed the No. 1 spot in the fashion sector, surpassing Louis Vuitton.
Louis Vuitton, which had maintained its position at the top among fashion brands, saw its brand value rise by 2% to $32.9 billion (about 47.6 trillion won), dropping to second place behind Chanel.
Following them, French luxury brand Hermès was valued at $19.9 billion (about 28.8 trillion won), and Christian Dior at $17.3 billion (about 25.04 trillion won).
In contrast, Italian luxury brand Gucci's value fell by 24% year-on-year to $11.4 billion (about 16.5 trillion won), dropping from fifth to ninth place. This decline is attributed to a slowdown in the Chinese consumer market, as Chinese shoppers—major spenders in the luxury sector—tightened their wallets.
Not only Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, and Christian Dior, but also other French brands like Cartier ranked highly.
Brand Finance stated, "Nine French brands generate nearly twice the total revenue of U.S. brands," adding, "This strength is closely linked to France’s longstanding luxury apparel heritage and the role of its tourism industry as a driver of market growth."
They further noted, "This is a case that demonstrates how important quality, authenticity, and long-term brand equity are in maintaining a brand’s lasting competitiveness."
Meanwhile, the overall No. 1 luxury brand in this year’s survey was Germany’s Porsche.
Porsche’s brand value was recorded at $41.1 billion (approximately 59.5 trillion won), maintaining its top position for the eighth consecutive year.
