[Financial News] The winter limited edition 'Bearista Cold Cup' from Starbucks Korea has been in short supply immediately after its rerelease, causing resale prices to surge. The situation has become overheated, with open runs occurring in front of stores and transactions taking place at prices far above retail.
According to the used goods trading platform industry on the 31st, dozens of posts offering the product for sale have been registered.
The original price of the product is 45,000 won, but unopened new items are being traded for around 80,000 won. Some have been sold for over 100,000 won, and there are even listings asking for prices in the 200,000 won range.
Sales began nationwide on the 29th, but major locations have already sold out. On social networking service (SNS), users posted proof of purchase after waiting in line early in the morning, while others shared that they failed to buy the cup even after arriving at opening time.
This phenomenon is seen as a result of the domestic response following the release of the same product in the United States last November. In the U.S. secondhand market, the cup has been traded for several hundred dollars, sometimes exceeding $1,000 (about 1.45 million won).
The Bearista Cold Cup is a glass cup with a capacity of about 500ml, featuring a bear character wearing a green beanie. When Starbucks Korea first introduced it as a limited edition item in the fall of 2023, the entire stock sold out, demonstrating its popularity.
Starbucks Korea plans to conduct a second round of additional stock after the first sale, but has not disclosed the specific quantity.
