According to police on the 31st, the Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) recently took over the complaint related to Kang’s '100 million won bribery allegation' and has launched an investigation.
The allegation concerns the 2022 local elections, during which Kang Sun-woo’s side allegedly received 100 million won from Kim Kyung, who was then a candidate for the Seoul Metropolitan Council. The case became public after a recorded conversation with Kim Byung-kee, who was then secretary of the Democratic Party of Korea Seoul Metropolitan Chapter Nomination Committee, was reported by the media.
In connection with this, Kim Tae-woo, former head of Gangseo District Office, Seoul, and others filed a complaint with the police against Kang Sun-woo for violations of the Political Funds Act, the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (bribery), and the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act.
Kang Sun-woo later stated via social networking service (SNS), "There is absolutely no truth to the claim that I promised a nomination in exchange for money," adding, "I immediately ordered the money to be returned."
