Financial News – Police are set to question the accuser today regarding allegations that Kim Byung-kee, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), intervened in personnel matters at Coupang.
According to the police on the 31st, the Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) plans to summon Kim Hanme, head of Citizens' Action for Judicial Justice, who filed the complaint against Kim, at 2 p. m.
today to investigate the circumstances behind the accusation. Previously, Citizens' Action for Judicial Justice filed a complaint with the SMPA on the 18th, accusing Kim of obstruction of business by abuse of power and violating the Anti-Graft Act.
The complaint alleges that Kim received an expensive meal from Coupang and intervened in the personnel matters of a Coupang executive who was formerly his aide. It is reported that on September 5, ahead of the National Assembly audit, Kim Byung-kee had lunch with Park Dae-jun, then CEO of Coupang, and other Coupang officials at a hotel in Yeouido, Seoul.
Subsequently, suspicions arose that Kim attempted to influence the personnel decisions concerning his former aide who had joined Coupang.
