[Financial News] In Florida, a man has filed a lawsuit seeking $50,000 in damages after he was injured when the toilet in the restroom of an Outback Steakhouse suddenly broke while he was using it.
On the 28th (local time), the New York Post reported that Michael Green, a Florida resident, was involved in the incident last March at the Outback Steakhouse on Southwest College Road in Ocala.
Green stated in his complaint that while sitting on the toilet in the accessible restroom stall, the toilet suddenly shattered and collapsed, causing him to fall to the floor and suffer serious physical injuries. He claimed he sustained damage including the loss of important bodily functions, with the possibility of permanent injuries such as scarring or disfigurement. He also wrote that he has lost the ability to enjoy life.
He further alleged that the restaurant failed to properly secure the toilet to the floor, neglecting its duty to maintain safety, and created an unreasonably dangerous environment for patrons. He is holding the restaurant liable for negligence and is seeking $50,000 in damages.
This is not the first time a lawsuit has been filed in the United States over a toilet-related accident. Previously, at a Dunkin' Donuts in Florida, a male customer sued after a toilet exploded, splattering him with feces and urine. He claimed the incident caused severe psychological trauma that required intensive treatment.
