[Washington=AP/Newsis] Tatiana Schlossberg, granddaughter of former U.S. President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK), delivers a speech at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston during the 'Profile in Courage Award' ceremony on October 29, 2023 (local time).

[Financial News] The granddaughter of former U.S. President JFK has passed away at the age of 35 after battling a rare form of cancer.
The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation announced via social media that Tatiana Schlossberg, the second daughter of JFK’s eldest daughter Caroline Kennedy and an environmental journalist, died on the 30th (local time). In a post shared on behalf of the family, it read, “Our beautiful Tatiana left us this morning. She will always be in our hearts.”
Tatiana Schlossberg had been fighting a rare cancer. In an essay published in The New Yorker on November 22, the 62nd anniversary of JFK’s assassination, she revealed her battle with the disease.
It was reported that she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with a rare mutation shortly after giving birth to her daughter in May last year. In her essay, Schlossberg shared her disbelief at receiving a cancer diagnosis despite her active lifestyle, which included swimming and running. She also described her journey through chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant in detail.
According to The New York Times (NYT) at the time, Schlossberg’s oncologist estimated she had about one year left to live.
Born in Manhattan in 1990, Schlossberg studied history at Yale University and earned a master’s degree in history from the University of Oxford. She served as editor-in-chief of the Yale University newspaper, began her career as a reporter for a local newspaper in northern New Jersey, and later joined NYT as a science and climate reporter.
From Assassinations to Plane Crashes and Rare Cancer: The Kennedy Family’s Ongoing Tragedies

The Kennedy family has endured a disproportionate number of tragic events. JFK was assassinated in 1963, and his brother Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) was shot and killed five years later during a campaign. JFK’s son, John F. Kennedy Jr. (JFK Jr.), died at the age of 38 in a plane crash in 1999.
The death of Schlossberg from rare cancer adds to this legacy of tragedy. In her essay for The New Yorker, she wrote, “I have tried to live my life as a good person—a model student, a good sister, a dutiful daughter. I tried to protect my mother and never make her angry, but now I have added a new tragedy to my mother’s and our family’s lives, and there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop it.”
