Lotte World Aquarium announced on the 29th that it has newly opened an exhibit featuring its newest animal friend, the capybara, for the holiday season.
The capybara, native mainly to South America, is the world’s largest rodent. Adult capybaras measure about 1 to 1.3 meters in length and weigh between 35 and 65 kilograms. Despite their large size, they are known for their gentle temperament and sociability with other animals, earning them the nickname 'healing animals.'
Recently, videos of capybaras enjoying foot baths in hot springs have gone viral as memes, making them popular not only among children but also with the MZ generation (Millennials and Generation Z) as a form of 'harmless content.'

Spending much of their time in water is one of the capybara’s key ecological traits. With webbed feet, they are excellent swimmers and divers. The capybara tank on the first basement floor of Lotte World Aquarium is designed with an appropriate depth for swimming and diving, as well as a dedicated space for comfortable rest.
Lotte World Aquarium plans to offer a new ecological presentation introducing the capybara’s behaviors and charms, providing visitors with a unique experience. In addition, a capybara photo zone, themed food and beverage items, and related merchandise will be introduced sequentially.
