The police are deploying around 1,700 personnel in anticipation of large crowds gathering for the year-end bell-ringing event at Bosingak.
Park Jeong-bo, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, stated at a regular briefing on the 29th, "We are closely cooperating with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the fire department, and other relevant agencies regarding the Bosingak bell-ringing event."
On the 31st, the police plan to mobilize 1,760 personnel, including riot police units, to ensure thorough crowd management. In addition, 400 traffic police officers, 24 patrol cars, and 10 motorcycles will be deployed to the site. Traffic in the vicinity of Bosingak will be restricted from 6 p.m. on the 31st until 7 a.m. on January 1st.
Commissioner Park said, "Severe traffic congestion is expected due to sunrise events, so we ask citizens to check traffic information in advance and use public transportation whenever possible."
On the same day, as President Lee Jae-myung made his first commute to Cheong Wa Dae (the Blue House), the police maintained 'open and low-profile security' in the surrounding area. Meanwhile, indirectly employed (contract) workers at Cheong Wa Dae and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) held rallies nearby, protesting the threat of layoffs.
Commissioner Park added regarding the relocation of the presidential office, "We have made thorough preparations," and emphasized, "Security is being conducted in a way that minimizes inconvenience to citizens."
