[Financial News] The Kim Keon Hee Special Prosecutor Team, led by Min Joong-ki, has indicted former president Yoon Suk Yeol for violating the Public Official Election Act. The indictment concerns Yoon's remarks during his presidential campaign, in which he claimed he had never met Jeon Sung-bae, also known as Geonjin Beopsa.
On the 26th, the special prosecutor announced that Yoon Suk Yeol has been charged with violating the Public Official Election Act.
Yoon is accused of making false statements during his campaign for the 20th presidential election.
On December 14, 2021, at a Kwanhun Club forum, Yoon was asked whether he had introduced a lawyer in connection with the bribery case involving Woo Jin Yun, former head of the Yongsan Tax Office. He responded that he had not introduced any lawyer.
Additionally, in an interview at the launch of the Buddhist Leaders Forum on January 17, 2022, Yoon stated that he had never met Jeon, together with Kim Keon Hee, after being introduced by a party official.
The special prosecutor determined that all of Yoon's statements were false and applied the charge of violating the Public Official Election Act. The team explained that Yoon intentionally made false statements ahead of the presidential election, potentially influencing public support. The investigation found that Yoon did introduce a lawyer to Woo Jin Yun and that Jeon was introduced to him by Kim Keon Hee.
