[Financial News] A former aide to Kim Byung-kee, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), has filed a police complaint against Kim, claiming defamation after the disclosure of Telegram group chat messages.
The Seoul Dongjak Police Station announced on the 26th that it had received a complaint on the 24th accusing Kim of violating the Protection of Communications Secrets Act and the Information and Communications Network Act, and is currently reviewing the matter.
On the previous day, Kim disclosed on his social media account the contents of a Telegram group chat involving former aides. He stated, "On December 4 last year, the day after the illegal martial law incident, I learned of a secret chat room called 'Yeouido Matdori' created by six aides."
He added, "Behind their insincere smiles, they were making light of the insurrection, secretly photographing a female district councilor and making sexually harassing remarks, and viciously attacking me and my family with words that are difficult to repeat." Kim said he notified them of their dismissal on the 9th.
Previously, Kim faced allegations of receiving hotel accommodation vouchers and airport privileges from Korean Air. He denied the accusations, stating, "The informant is presumed to be a former aide who worked with me in the past and is posing as a whistleblower."
Regarding these allegations, Citizens' Action for Judicial Justice filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the morning of the same day, accusing Kim of bribery and violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act. The group claims that Kim, who was a member of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee of the National Assembly, received implicit favors despite the connection to his official duties, such as the Korean Air–Asiana Airlines merger.
