[Financial News] A US passenger traveling from the United States to Europe has filed a lawsuit seeking hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages against American and European airlines, claiming to have been bitten by bedbugs during the flight.
According to National Broadcasting Company (NBC) on the 25th (local time), Romulo Albuquerque, a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia, recently filed a $200,000 (approximately 300 million KRW) lawsuit against KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM) and Delta Air Lines, which sold the ticket.
In March, Albuquerque and his wife and two children boarded a Delta Air Lines flight from Roanoke to Atlanta, then transferred to a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Belgrade, Republic of Serbia.
According to the complaint, about two hours after the flight to Amsterdam began, they "felt insects crawling on their bodies and biting them," and "at that moment, discovered bedbugs crawling on their clothes."
They immediately notified the flight attendants, but claim they were told to "keep their voices down" so as not to alarm other passengers.
The family submitted videos and photos to the court showing insects crawling on their clothes and between the seats, as well as dead bugs on napkins provided by KLM.
They also claimed that the bedbug bites caused swelling and itchy hives, lesions, and rashes across their bodies and limbs.
The flight in question was operated by KLM and purchased through Delta Air Lines' SkyMiles program.
The Albuquerque family has filed a lawsuit against both KLM and Delta Air Lines.
