[Financial News] In Australia, a woman in her 40s remained calm and survived a life-threatening encounter with a highly venomous Eastern Brown Snake that wrapped itself around her leg. The incident, where the snake became stuck on her sneaker loop and restricted its movement, has drawn attention for her composure under pressure.
According to a report by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) on the 23rd local time, the woman was participating in a GPS-based treasure hunt game called Geocaching in a forested area southwest of Sydney on the 20th.
During the activity, she felt something wrap around her leg. Initially mistaking it for a leaf, she tried to brush it off, only to discover it was a snake.
The Eastern Brown Snake attached to her leg is known to possess a potent venom that can cause death within 15 minutes and is considered the deadliest snake in Australia.
The situation became even more dangerous when the snake became caught on the back loop of her sneaker, making it impossible for her to move or escape.
She immediately alerted authorities and remained completely still until rescuers arrived. The rescue team secured the snake’s head and removed her shoe to free her.
Snake handler Kory Kerewaro described it as "the most shocking case" he had ever encountered, explaining that the snake’s restricted movement made it difficult to ensure the safety of both the victim and the rescue team.
Although the cause of the wound on her leg was unclear, the rescue team administered first aid and antivenom as a precaution. Tests later confirmed that the woman was in good health.
Kerewaro emphasized that, when encountering a snake, remaining still as this woman did is crucial. He advised that snakes are highly sensitive to movement, so staying motionless is safest, and one should only retreat slowly once there is sufficient distance.
