[Financial News] Hollywood star Bruce Willis, 70, who has been diagnosed with dementia and is currently battling the disease, has decided to donate his brain after his death.
According to recent international media reports, Willis's wife, Emma Heming Willis, announced her intention to donate her husband's brain after his passing to support brain research.
Heming Willis explained, "It is an emotionally difficult decision. However, it is necessary for the scientific understanding of frontotemporal dementia (FTD)."
Bruce Willis, who rose to global stardom with the blockbuster 'Die Hard' series, announced his retirement in March 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia. About a year later, he was diagnosed with dementia.
Willis is currently receiving 24-hour professional care, living apart from his wife and daughters. It has been reported that he no longer recognizes that he was once an actor.
Frontotemporal dementia (FTD), the condition Willis was diagnosed with, is a degenerative form of dementia that typically develops between the ages of 50 and 65. Unlike Alzheimer's disease (AD), FTD often presents first with language impairment, personality changes, and emotional blunting. It is estimated to account for about 10% of all dementia cases.
Willis began his career in the 1980s and, aside from the 'Die Hard' series, starred in the TV series 'Moonlighting' and films such as 'Pulp Fiction,' 'The Fifth Element,' and 'Armageddon,' establishing himself as a leading action star in Hollywood for decades. He has three daughters with his ex-wife Demi Moore and two daughters with his current wife, Emma Heming Willis.
