[Financial News] Emart is recalling all stocks of an imported American peanut butter product after it was found to contain more than twice the permitted level of aflatoxin, a toxic mold contaminant.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety recently announced that it has ordered a sales suspension and recall of '100% Peanut Butter Creamy' (expiration date: April 30, 2027), imported by Emart in Cheonan, Chungnam, after aflatoxin levels exceeded the legal limit. The recall affects a total of 19,620.72 kg.
Testing by the Incheon Institute of Health and Environment revealed that the product contained more than double the allowable amount of aflatoxin. Aflatoxin is a toxic mold that forms on grains and nuts in hot and humid environments, and long-term consumption can cause liver damage and other health risks.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has instructed distributors to swiftly recall the product. An official from the ministry urged, "Consumers who have purchased this product should immediately stop consuming it and return it to the place of purchase."
