[Financial News] Following Kim Eui-sung, Moon Sung-keun has also confirmed quitting Coupang after the massive personal data breach.
On the 19th, Moon Sung-keun posted on his social media, "It's easy not to use Coupang." He continued, "I have both GS SHOP and N+Store installed and search there first. Sometimes I can't find what I need, so I check Coupang, then enter the product name in detail on GS or N, and it shows up. Need next-day delivery? I just order a day or two in advance. If I'm upset, why can't I even do that?"
Previously, Coupang experienced a massive personal data leak affecting 33.7 million people, and recently, suspicions of overwork-related deaths among logistics center workers have also emerged.
Since then, more users have been quitting Coupang, with celebrities joining in and voicing their support.
Actor Kim Eui-sung also shared on social media on the 18th, "These days, I use Naver Shopping. There are a few inconveniences, but it's usable. Even without next-day delivery, it's manageable. If the company I left shows some responsibility, I might consider rejoining," indirectly revealing that he had quit Coupang.
Composer Yoon Il-sang also expressed his stance. He wrote on social media, "I'm willing to be inconvenienced. If a company treats its employees as expendable or ignores the dignity of labor, and if profit comes before the conscience of management, we have always been willing to endure inconvenience."
He added, "Even if it's an irreplaceable product or platform, if we don't willingly accept inconvenience, nothing will change," urging companies to uphold their ethical responsibilities.
Despite the massive personal data leak, Coupang has responded only lukewarmly. In response, the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea held a hearing on the 17th and requested the attendance of Coupang founder Bom Kim.
However, Bom Kim stated, "As the CEO of a global company operating in over 170 countries, I have official business commitments and am unable to attend the hearing."
