[Financial News] Bitcoin (BTC) remained stable at around $85,000 on the 19th, as investors awaited the Bank of Japan (BOJ)'s policy rate decision.
According to global digital asset information platform CoinMarketCap, BTC was trading at approximately $85,000 as of 10:10 a.m., down 0.56% over the past 24 hours. Over the past week, BTC has declined by 7.00%.
In the Korean won market, BTC was trading at around 126 million won. According to global asset price comparison platform Cryprice, the Korea premium stood at 0.75%.
The BOJ is expected to announce its decision on a possible rate hike following its monetary policy meeting today. Market participants are largely anticipating an increase.
There are concerns that a rate hike could trigger the unwinding of yen carry trades. The yen carry trade is a strategy where investors borrow yen at ultra-low interest rates to invest in higher-yielding assets abroad, profiting from the interest rate differential. A rate increase could prompt a significant outflow of yen, which has supported risk assets, potentially reducing global liquidity.
However, since expectations of a rate hike are already priced into the market, some analysts believe investor sentiment may recover after the decision. Sunghoon Lee, a researcher at KIWOOM Securities, stated, "Although the BOJ's monetary policy meeting remains, if the outcome aligns with market expectations, the resolution of uncertainty could lead to a rebound in currently weakened investor sentiment."
The Crypto Fear and Greed Index provided by CoinMarketCap stood at 21 today, indicating 'fear.' This is slightly lower than the previous day's reading of 22. The index ranges from 0 to 100, with values closer to 0 indicating 'extreme fear' and those near 100 reflecting 'extreme greed.'
At the same time, Ethereum was trading at around $2,825, up 0.11% from the previous day. Ripple was down 4.04% at approximately $1.78.
