[Financial News] Lee Hyun Do of the group Deux will share a portion of the neighboring rights for the new song 'Rise' with the family of the late Kim Sung-jae.
On the 18th, the Federation of Korean Music Performers (FKMP) announced, "As Lee Hyun Do, a member of FKMP, expressed his intention to allocate part of his neighboring rights to Kim Sung-jae, we have established a distribution structure accordingly."
Neighboring rights are granted to performers and musicians involved in the production of a recording, and are distinct from copyrights, which are given to creators.
Led by Lee Hyun Do, Deux released their first new song in 28 years, 'Rise,' last month. The track drew attention for using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to extract the late member Kim Sung-jae’s voice from past recordings and include it in the song.
As the lyricist, composer, and performer of the new song, Lee Hyun Do decided to share a portion of the neighboring rights as a tribute to his late colleague Kim Sung-jae. Accordingly, FKMP will distribute part of the neighboring rights royalties to Kim Sung-jae’s family in compliance with current laws.
Kim Seungmin, Executive Director of FKMP, stated, "This decision demonstrates that at the heart of music remain the performers, their relationships, and the mutual respect they hold for one another."
