According to The Financial News, police investigating allegations of Unification Church-related bribery among political figures have obtained an additional search and seizure warrant without specifying addresses, in anticipation that new residences may be uncovered during the process. This measure was taken to allow immediate execution of further searches on the day of the initial operation, should it be found that key suspects reside in multiple locations.
Based on The Financial News coverage on the 17th, the Special Investigation Task Force of the National Office of Investigation, Korean National Police Agency, issued additional warrants without specifying addresses on the first day of the search, the 15th, for Chun Jae-soo, former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, Jong Sung Lim, former Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) lawmaker, and Kyuhwan Kim, former United Future Party lawmaker, among others. This was to ensure that if new residences were identified during the search, police could proceed without requesting new warrants.
Earlier, police conducted extensive searches at ten locations from 9 a.m. on the 15th until 12:40 a.m. the following day, including Cheonjeong Palace, Gapyeong, Gyeonggi; the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Seoul Headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul; and the homes and offices of politicians implicated in the case. During this process, it was discovered that the actual residences of some politicians differed from their previously known addresses.
Given that multiple sites were targeted simultaneously, police set the validity period of the search warrants to about one month to prepare for unexpected variables that could delay execution.
Meanwhile, starting around 9:30 a.m. that day, police also conducted an interview investigation with Hak Ja Han, president of the Unification Church, who is currently detained at the Seoul Detention Center.
