[Financial News] On the day the Special Counsel for Insurrection was set to report its findings, the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) reiterated the necessity of pursuing a Second Special Prosecutor Investigation, emphasizing that numerous unresolved suspicions remain.
During the Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Chung Cheong-rae, leader of the DPK, stated, “We must pursue a Second Special Prosecutor Investigation into the insurrection allegations that the Three Major Special Prosecutor Teams could not conclude.” He added, “The Ruling Party-Government-Presidential Office Consultative Body will work as one team to thoroughly uncover all remaining suspicions.”
Chung emphasized, “Today marks the end of the 180-day investigation by the Special Counsel for Insurrection,” and asserted, “There are still mountains of unresolved suspicions.”
He further pointed out, “The crime of treason allegations were not properly investigated, and it remains unclear why former President Yoon Suk Yeol initiated the insurrection or what the true motive was. The same applies to the already concluded Special Prosecutor for the Death of a Marine and the soon-to-be-completed Special Prosecutor for Kim Keon-hee.”
Chung added, “If today’s crimes are covered up, tomorrow’s crimes will become even bolder. Addressing the insurrection is not just about punishing yesterday’s crimes, but also about preventing ongoing insurrection and safeguarding the constitution in the future,” underscoring the need for an additional special prosecutor investigation.
He continued, “There must be no tolerance for anti-constitutional forces that undermine democracy in the Republic of Korea. The Ruling Party-Government-Presidential Office Consultative Body will do its utmost, united with the people, to achieve a complete resolution of the insurrection.”
After the Supreme Council meeting, Park Su-hyeon, chief spokesperson for the DPK, told reporters, “The direction for the Second Special Prosecutor Investigation has been set.” He explained, “A list of unresolved issues from the Three Major Special Prosecutor Teams has been compiled. Coordinating the scope of the special prosecutor between the Ruling Party-Government-Presidential Office Consultative Body is one of the key tasks this week.”
Regarding some opinions that further investigation should be conducted by the National Office of Investigation rather than pursuing a Second Special Prosecutor Investigation, Park Su-hyeon explained, “Due to the lack of cooperation and denial of charges by the so-called suspects, the Special Counsel could only access a very limited part of the truth. In line with the social consensus that the special prosecutor must investigate, I believe a separate Second Special Prosecutor Investigation is necessary to uncover the facts.”
