KOSPI Surpasses 4,150 Mark on Institutional Buying [fn Morning Market Brief]

[Financial News] The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) surpassed the 4,150 mark on the 12th, buoyed by net institutional purchases of around 500 billion KRW. Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) hit a record high, with semiconductor and defense stocks leading gains.
As of 10:30 a.m. today, KOSPI was trading at 4,157.83, up 1.15% from the previous session. The index opened at 4,123.83, a 0.32% increase, and has continued to climb.
In the main stock market, individuals and foreign investors recorded net sales of 463.1 billion KRW and 25.5 billion KRW, respectively, while institutions posted net purchases of 491.5 billion KRW.
Overnight, the New York stock market closed mixed. On the 11th (U.S. Eastern Time) at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) rose 1.34% to close at 48,704.01, marking a new all-time high. The S&P 500 Index (S&P 500) gained 0.21% to 6,901.00, while the NASDAQ Composite Index fell 0.25% to 23,593.86.
Among top-cap domestic stocks, Samsung Electronics was up 1.30% at 108,700 KRW, and SK hynix rose 2.30% to 578,000 KRW. Hanwha Aerospace (4.54%) and Hyundai Mobis (4.30%) also showed strong gains, while LG Energy Solution fell 1.01%.
By sector, securities (2.52%), construction (2.31%), and transportation equipment and parts (2.19%) posted gains of over 2%. In contrast, insurance (-6.81%), real estate (-1.07%), and non-metallic minerals (-0.56%) declined.
At the same time, the Korea Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (KOSDAQ) index was up 0.06% at 935.21. KOSDAQ opened at 933.99, down 0.07% from the previous session, but turned positive early in the session.
In the KOSDAQ market, individuals, foreign investors, and institutions all recorded net purchases of 8.1 billion KRW, 18.6 billion KRW, and 9.5 billion KRW, respectively. Among the top KOSDAQ stocks, Alteogen Inc. showed a notable decline of 4.30%, while ABL Bio Inc. (1.78%) and Rainbow Robotics (2.02%) were on the rise.
