[Financial News] On the 10th, President Lee Jae-myung ordered a thorough investigation into allegations involving the Unification Church, instructing that the probe be conducted strictly regardless of party affiliation or position.
The Office of the President of South Korea explained in a press release that "President Lee directed that any illegal involvement between a particular religious group and politicians be investigated strictly, regardless of party affiliation or rank."
This statement comes as the Special Prosecutor is investigating allegations that the Unification Church provided illegal funds to the People Power Party and other opposition parties. Recently, media reports have also suggested that not only the People Power Party but also current and former members of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) may be implicated.
The previous day, during a State Council meeting, President Lee also addressed the issue of religious organizations' political involvement and illegal fundraising, stating, "If a corporation or foundation engages in acts that violate the Constitution or the law and are subject to public criticism, they should be dissolved."
