[Financial News] As the FIFA World Cup in North and Central America approaches next June, some self-employed business owners who were hoping for a World Cup boost are now disappointed after the match times for the South Korea national football team's three group stage games were announced. All matches are scheduled for weekday mornings.
On the 7th, a post titled "Can We Still Benefit from the World Cup During Morning Hours?" appeared on the small business community 'Apeunikka Sajangida.'
The author wrote, "Looking at the World Cup schedule, the kickoffs are at 10 to 11 a.m. Can owners of jokbal, pizza, and chicken restaurants really expect a World Cup boost at that time?"
This post was made after the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) announced the group stage schedule.
According to FIFA, South Korea will play its first match against the winner of the European playoff at 11 a.m. KST on June 12 next year. The European playoff features Denmark, Republic of North Macedonia, Czech Republic, and Ireland, with the winner to be decided on April 1 next year.
The matches against Mexico and the Republic of South Africa will take place at 10 a.m. on June 19 and June 25, respectively.
During the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, South Korea's matches kicked off around midnight KST. At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, BHC Chicken saw its sales double on match days compared to the same day the previous month and increase by 1.3 times compared to the same day of the previous week. bb.q Chicken's sales rose by 1.7 times, while Kyochon Chicken's sales increased by 1.4 times.
The self-employed owner's post expressed concern that with next year's World Cup matches taking place as early as 10 a.m., it will be difficult to fully benefit from the World Cup effect.
Netizens also sympathized with the post.
Comments included, "No one has chimaek (chicken and beer) at that hour," "How much demand could there be?" and "At that time, everyone will probably be at work."
