[Financial News] The police have reportedly identified a former Coupang employee of Chinese nationality as the suspect in the massive personal information leak.

According to No Cut News on the 9th, police specified a former Coupang employee of Chinese nationality, referred to as Mr. A, as the suspect in the search and seizure warrant issued by the court. He is accused of breaching the Information and Communications Network Act and disclosing secrets. Mr. A was reportedly responsible for developing Coupang’s authentication system.

Earlier that day, the Cyber Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency conducted a search and seizure at Coupang’s headquarters in Songpa District, Seoul, around 11 a.m. Authorities plan to investigate the specific route and cause of the data leak based on the seized materials.

Coupang announced on the 29th of last month that approximately 37.7 million customer accounts had been leaked externally. The company confirmed that the leaked information includes names, email addresses, delivery address books, some order details, and certain shared entrance passwords.
