According to The Financial News, a remarkable story has surfaced online about a rescuer who married the girl he saved during the devastating 2008 earthquake in Sichuan Province, China.
The South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 8th (local time) about a mass wedding ceremony for 27 couples recently held in Changsha, Hunan Province, with particular attention given to one special couple.
The groom is Liang Zhibin, 39, and the bride is Liu Shimei, 27.
Their connection began 17 years ago at the site of a disaster in 2008.
When the Sichuan Province earthquake struck, Liu Shimei, then ten years old, was trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building. Liang Zhibin, who was a 22-year-old soldier at the time, was dispatched to the scene as a rescuer and saved Liu Shimei from beneath the debris of steel and bricks.
After being rescued by Liang Zhibin, Liu Shimei moved with her parents to Zhuzhou in Hunan Province. Twelve years after the Sichuan earthquake, in 2020, Liu Shimei encountered Liang Zhibin once again by chance at a restaurant her family visited.
Liu Shimei’s mother pointed to a man at a nearby table and remarked, "He looks like the soldier who saved you years ago." Prompted by this, Liu Shimei approached the man and discovered he was indeed Liang Zhibin, her rescuer.
After exchanging contact information, Liu Shimei and Liang Zhibin kept in touch and became friends. Over time, Liu Shimei realized she had developed feelings for him and eventually confessed.
The two began dating and recently celebrated their wedding.
Liu Shimei stated, "It’s not just that I liked him because he saved me," adding, "I felt I could trust him with my life."
The couple’s fateful love story has touched many online, with comments such as "A romance straight out of a movie" and "A bond made in heaven."
