[Financial News] Shinhan Bank announced on the 9th that it has launched the 'AI Export Bill Purchase Screening Service,' the first in the domestic financial sector to apply OpenAI's Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) model.
This service was introduced after being designated as an innovative financial service by the Financial Services Commission (FSC) in April and passing a security assessment by the Financial Security Institute last month. It marks the first case in Korea where a generative AI model is fully applied to international trade finance screening tasks.
Previously, export companies had to submit documents to their banks and wait for a detailed review based on international standards such as the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP) and International Standard Banking Practice (ISBP) before receiving funds. With the introduction of AI-based screening, the document review process is now automated, reducing screening times and lowering defect risks, which have been a major burden for exporters.
Through this new service, Shinhan Bank aims to ease the workload of branch staff and create an environment where they can focus on consulting and supporting corporate clients. The bank also plans to gradually expand AI utilization to a wide range of foreign exchange operations, including export-related tasks, import letters of credit, and remittances.
A Shinhan Bank representative stated, "This AI screening service is more than just simple automation—it is a practical innovation that supports exporters in quickly collecting payments." The representative added, "We will continue to integrate AI technology across the financial sector to enhance both the convenience and competitiveness of our corporate clients."
