[Financial News] Cho Kuk, leader of the Rebuilding Korea Party, commented on the bill to establish a Special Panel for Insurrection Cases being promoted by the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), stating, “It is proper to remove any constitutional concerns and to have the panel operate from the appellate court.”
On the 9th, through his Facebook page, Cho referred to the first trial of former President Yoon Suk Yeol and said, “There is much criticism of the Presiding Judge Ji Gui-yeon Panel, which will reach a verdict on January 9 next year, and I share those concerns.”
He continued, “Even if this bill (to establish the Special Panel for Insurrection Cases) passes and the panel does not request a constitutional review, the decision to transfer the case to a new panel will still be made by the Presiding Judge Ji Gui-yeon Panel. After the transfer, the Judges' Council must convene to make recommendations. Since the Judges' Council has already announced that there are constitutional concerns with this bill, it is uncertain whether recommendations will be made promptly.”
He added, “After recommendations are made, a ‘trial renewal procedure’ must be conducted. Even at the fastest, these procedures will not conclude until the end of January or early February. Only then will the trial proceed.”
He emphasized, “This is why I have consistently argued that the Special Panel for Insurrection Cases should begin its operation from the appellate court.”
