[The Financial News] Following a massive personal data leak, Coupang is now seeing a significant outflow of users.
According to Mobile Index by IGAWorks, as of the 5th, Coupang’s daily active users (DAU) stood at 16,177,757.
This figure represents a decrease of more than 1.81 million users compared to the record high of 17,988,845 on the 1st.
User numbers had been rising for three consecutive days since November 29, but began to decline on the fourth day, with the drop accelerating.
After surpassing 17 million daily users for the first time on November 30, the number has now fallen back to the 16 million range.
Due to the data breach, there was a temporary surge in consumers accessing the Coupang app for login, password checks, or account deletion after the 29th. Some of these users have since left the platform.
In contrast, major domestic e-commerce platforms such as Gmarket have seen a slight increase in user numbers.
On the day the Coupang incident broke, Gmarket’s user count jumped from 1,366,073 to 1,616,489 the following day. 11st and Naver Plus Store also experienced a temporary uptick in users.
As more Coupang users leave, other e-commerce companies appear to be benefiting from the situation.
