[The Financial News] Japanese police have launched an investigation after the body of a newborn was discovered in a freezer at an entertainment establishment in Tokyo. The remains were found mutilated, and some body parts are still missing, shocking the local community.
According to Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) and other sources, at around 9 p.m. on the 6th, police received a report from a male employee at an entertainment establishment in Sumida City, Tokyo, stating, "While cleaning the refrigerator, I found what appeared to be a baby's head."
Police who arrived at the scene confirmed the remains belonged to an infant estimated to be less than one year old. The head was wrapped in a plastic bag, while both hands and feet were placed in a plastic container. The torso has not yet been found. The baby's gender has not been determined.
The remains were discovered in an office that also served as an employee waiting area within the entertainment establishment. The venue stated that about 20 people used the space daily.
The freezer was shared among staff and also contained food and beverages.
Police are treating the case as an abandonment of a corpse and have launched an investigation. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death and to identify the victim.
