[Financial News] Health authorities have announced a suspension of operations for the hospital run by psychiatrist and broadcaster Jae-woong Yang, following an incident in which a patient who had been restrained died.
On the 8th, the Bucheon City Public Health Center stated that it had sent a preliminary notice of a three-month suspension of operations to a hospital in Bucheon, where unlicensed medical practices (a violation of the Medical Service Act) were detected. This hospital is operated by Jae-woong Yang.
The health center plans to issue a final administrative decision after receiving the hospital’s statement by the end of this month.
Previously, The Hankyoreh reported that the hospital was undergoing closure procedures, transferring inpatients and providing guidance to those seeking admission to other facilities.
Regarding this, an official from the Bucheon City Public Health Center stated, "No closure-related documents have been submitted by the hospital so far," but added, "If the hospital submits a statement opting for a fine, it can continue operating without suspension."
Meanwhile, last month, Mr. A, the attending physician at the hospital, and five nurses were indicted on charges including professional negligence resulting in death.
They are accused of failing to provide appropriate care to Ms. B, a woman in her 30s who complained of abdominal pain on May 27 last year, resulting in her death.
According to the Prosecution Service's investigation, they failed to properly monitor the side effects of antipsychotic drugs administered to Ms. B, who had been admitted for treatment of diet pill addiction.
Subsequently, they confined Ms. B in a seclusion room and restrained her hands and feet, or left her unattended, despite her complaints of pain.
Ultimately, Ms. B died after 17 days from acute pseudo-obstruction of the intestine.
The Prosecution Service is continuing its investigation into seven medical staff members, including Jae-woong Yang.
