[Financial News] A baby with blonde hair and Western features was born to Chinese parents, sparking public interest.
According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 8th, a couple surnamed Yang living in Jiangsu Province, China, shared that their two-year-old daughter has gradually developed more Caucasian features.
Yang explained that when their daughter was born, she looked like a typical Chinese baby. However, around eight months of age, her eyes began to turn blue.
By the time she turned one, her hair had become curly and blonde, her eyelashes grew longer, and her Caucasian characteristics became even more pronounced.
Out of curiosity, the Yang couple underwent a DNA test, which confirmed that the girl was indeed their biological daughter. Further investigation into their family history revealed that the girl's great-grandfather was from the Russian Federation. He had married a woman from Henan Province and settled in China.
Yang stated, "In our family, only boys were born in the past. Neither my father, myself, nor any other male relatives showed any mixed-race features."
He continued, "It seems the Caucasian genes inherited from my great-grandfather remain inactive in males. Older relatives all say that my daughter closely resembles her great-grandfather."
On this topic, science blogger Lao Ren, who specializes in genetics, explained, "Genes that determine hair and eye color are recessive. Male family members may carry these genes without expressing them, but they can manifest in female descendants."
Meanwhile, in November last year, a story emerged from Shanghai, China, where a Chinese woman, identified as Ms. A, gave birth to a black son. Even after a paternity test, it was confirmed that the boy was indeed the biological child of the Chinese couple.
In 2011, a black couple living in the United Kingdom gave birth to a son with blonde hair and fair skin. Both the husband and the medical staff were astonished, initially suspecting infidelity. However, Bryan Sykes, a professor of human genetics at the University of Oxford, explained that such cases can occur if there is Caucasian ancestry in the family line.
In 2016, Libby Appleby, a white woman residing in the UK, gave birth to twin daughters—one with dark skin, black hair, and brown eyes, and the other with fair skin, blue eyes, and tightly curled dark brown hair. Despite their strikingly different appearances, genetic testing confirmed the twins were 100% identical, surprising many.
