[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung emphasized at the Presidential Committee for the Era of Local Autonomy briefing on the 8th that “decentralization, balanced development, and strengthening local autonomy are essential national growth strategies for Korea’s continued development.”
At the briefing held at the Office of the President of South Korea in Yongsan District, President Lee told Kim Kyoung-soo, Chairperson of the Presidential Committee for the Era of Local Autonomy, and other committee members, “It appears that the Committee has thoroughly prepared various policies for local decentralization and balanced growth.”
President Lee stressed, “Although our society faces a variety of challenges, restoring growth is among the most critical.” He added, “It is a historical fact that Korea achieved significant results by pursuing a growth strategy centered on the Greater Seoul area.”
However, President Lee noted, “Recently, the excessive concentration in the Greater Seoul area has begun to undermine our growth potential.”
He particularly stated, “Now is the time for Korea to secure new growth engines by establishing a multi-regional system through the Five Mega-Regions and Three Special Self-Governing Provinces Policy.”
He further urged, “I hope that well-prepared policies will continue to be implemented so that Korea can open up new and sustainable opportunities for growth.”
