[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung has drawn attention by personally posting a message on his social media praising Jung Won-oh, the head of Seoul’s Seongdong District.
On the 8th, President Lee shared an article about the regular public opinion survey results for Seongdong District on his X (formerly Twitter) account, commenting, “Jung Won-oh must be doing an excellent job. My satisfaction rating as Mayor of Seongnam was quite high, but it seems I might not even dare to present my business card.”
The article reported that Seongdong District received a positive evaluation exceeding 90% in a satisfaction survey conducted among residents. In the survey, 92.9% of respondents said the district was performing well.
President Lee’s public praise of Jung on social media has sparked speculation that he may be expressing support for Jung, who is considered a potential ruling party candidate for Seoul mayor in next year’s local elections.
However, an official from the Office of the President of South Korea told Yonhap News Agency, “President Lee was simply recalling his time as Mayor of Seongnam and did not have the local elections in mind.”
Meanwhile, the survey was commissioned by Seongdong District and conducted by Hankook Research from October 21 to 24, targeting 1,500 adult residents aged 18 and over. The survey was carried out through 100% wireless phone interviews using randomly generated virtual mobile numbers. The margin of error was ±2.5% at a 95% confidence level. The results were weighted by region, gender, and age according to resident registration population statistics from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS).
