[Financial News] The police have activated the Special Investigation Headquarters to continue investigating cases that the Three Major Special Prosecutor Investigations were unable to conclude.
A police official stated at a regular press briefing at the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) on the 8th, “The Special Investigation Headquarters will proceed in the direction indicated by the evidence,” adding, “We will conduct a fair investigation based on law and principles.”
Previously, on the 1st, the National Office of Investigation established the Special Investigation Headquarters to take over and continue cases left unresolved by the Three Major Special Prosecutor Investigations. Kim Bo-jun, Security Investigation Deliberation Officer at the KNPA, was appointed as the head of the headquarters. On the 28th of last month, the team received an unresolved case from the Special Prosecutor for the Investigation of the Death of a Marine.
Currently, the Special Investigation Headquarters is operating with 28 members, as not all cases have been transferred from the special prosecutor teams.
A police official explained, “We have organized both the investigation support team and the investigation team for the Special Prosecutor for the Investigation of the Death of a Marine, each with 14 members, for a total of 28. The team for the Special Prosecutor for the Investigation of the Death of a Marine, which concluded first, has been designated as Team 1. Teams 2 and 3 will be formed in accordance with the conclusion of the Special Counsel for Insurrection and the Special Prosecutor for Kim Keon-hee.”
However, the specific duration of operation and future personnel composition of the Special Investigation Headquarters have not yet been finalized.
A police official noted, “We do not yet know the scale or nature of the cases to be handed over from the other two special prosecutors, so the duration and personnel composition of the Special Investigation Headquarters have not been determined. These will be decided based on the size and nature of the cases received from the special prosecutor teams.”
