[Financial News] Jeeho Lee (24), the eldest son of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, was officially commissioned as a Navy interpreter officer last month. His motto, revealed during the commissioning ceremony, has recently attracted public attention.
On the 6th, a photo titled "Lee Jae-yong's Son's Motto" was posted on online communities and social networking services (SNS). The image shows the electronic display at the 139th Navy and Republic of Korea Marine Corps Officer Candidate Graduation and Commissioning Ceremony held on November 28 at the parade ground of the Republic of Korea Naval Academy in Changwon.
The screen displayed a photo of Jeeho Lee along with his motto: "Without pain, humans cannot evolve, so enjoy it."
After the post was made public, netizens commented, "Now I understand why he chose to enlist," and "You can sense the reason he took such a challenging path."

The ceremony was attended by Chairman Lee, his mother Hong Ra-hee, honorary director of Leeum Museum of Art, his aunt Lee Seo-hyun, president of Samsung C&T, as well as his mother Lim Se-ryung, vice chairperson of Daesang Holdings, his maternal grandmother Hyun-joo Park, also a vice chairperson, and his aunt Sang Min Lim, executive vice president of Daesang.
Jeeho Lee renounced his U.S. citizenship and enlisted last September as part of the 139th class of officer candidates. Recommended by his peers, he was selected as the class representative at the commissioning ceremony, where he delivered the commissioning oath and commanded the troops.
Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, Jeeho Lee will serve a total of 39 months as a Navy interpreter officer.
