[Financial News] As the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) accelerates the passage of judicial reform bills, including the establishment of a Special Panel for Insurrection Cases, the party announced it would devise measures to address constitutional concerns raised both inside and outside the political sphere.
At a press briefing at the party headquarters in Yeouido on the 7th, Cho Seung-rae, Secretary-General of the DPK, acknowledged, “It is true that even among those who support the Special Panel for Insurrection Cases, there are voices expressing concern about its constitutionality.”
He added, “Naturally, we will thoroughly review the bill up to the moment before the plenary vote. We will examine it to dispel concerns and make necessary revisions as needed.”
He further emphasized, “The Special Panel for Insurrection Cases is being promoted to ensure insurrection trials are conducted thoroughly, swiftly, and fundamentally. We will take steps to address concerns that the law might not achieve these aims.”
The DPK has set a goal to complete the passage of judicial reform bills within the year. Accordingly, it is likely that the party will push forward with judicial reform measures during the provisional session of the National Assembly convening on the 10th.
Cho Seung-rae stated, “During the provisional session of the National Assembly starting on the 10th, we plan to address key reform tasks step by step. These include revising the National Assembly Act to ensure filibusters, which have been distorted as tools to obstruct legislative progress, function rationally; passing the Special Panel for Insurrection Cases bill to alleviate public concerns through swift and professional trials; enacting the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (ICNA) to eradicate and penalize false information and fake news that undermine public discourse, democracy, and individual lives; and advancing judicial reform measures to provide better legal services to the public.”
